Faculty Awards

The NMRHS school community would like to recognize two of our faculty for some recent achievements.
First, Mr. Ray Kane (World Languages Department) has received the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 2011 Service-Learning Teacher Leader Award.  On May 3, 2011 Mr. Kane and students Gwen Morgan (grade 12) and Casey Libonate (grade 11) will be guest presenters at the DESE Service-Learning Conference.  At this event titled “Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities” Mr. Kane, Miss Morgan and Miss Libonate will lead their workshop Keys to Successful Service Learning: Team Building, Evaluation and Reflection.    This workshop is designed to explore the three foundations of effective service-learning implementation; reflection, evaluation and team building. Participants will interact in order to learn new skills in team building so as to be able to use them within their respective programs.  Mr. Kane will also be co-presenting with Ms. Meryl Higgins (Sepcial Education Department) a workshop titled Service Learning and Special Needs: Empowering ALL Students.  See more about the DESE state-wide conference and their recognition of the NM Community Garden at http://www.doe.mass.edu/csl/news11/Invitation.pdf
Also from the NM World Languages Department, Ms. Sharon Logiudice was recently awarded a scholarship to the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) Summer Seminar for Teachers, Medieval and Early Modern Islamic Iberia, 711-1614 CE.    Ms. Logiudice will spend a month this summer in Spain exploring “… a deeper and broader cultural history of Islamic Iberia”.  Seminar participants will spend two weeks at the University of Virginia’s Study Center in Valencia, Spain.  The remainder of their study will occur in Córdoba, Granada, Seville and Toledo.  Ms. Logiudice is one of only sixteen nation-wide recipients of this presitious grant!  Learn more about this exciting seminar at http://pages.shanti.virginia.edu/islamiciberia/
